  • Administrative Support
    Date entry, filing, typing, mailing and various clerical duties.

  • Community Organizing
    Phone calling, door-to-door, outreach, and facilitative trainings and events with/for the community.

  • Counseling
    Bilingual Licensed Mental Health Counselor and/or licensed Social Worker.

  • Fundraising
    Organize and run various fundraising events to help sustain programs and scholarships.

  • Academic Support
    After school tutoring K-12, GED, literacy in basic reading and writing and/or math.

  • Instruction
    English and ESOL teachers (you do not need any degrees or certifications), assist with Citizenship and Caminantes Programs.

  • Transportation
    Driver’s License, must be 25 years or older, must complete Hope CommUnity Center driver training.

Responsibilities: Practice and Review Instructors: Virtual flexible schedule, working one-on-one with students preparing for their USCIS interview.

After School Tutoring (K-5 Tutors)

Report to: Director of Academic Support and Academic Support Assistant.

Objective: To serve as a tutor to elementary school-aged children from a variety of social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Tutoring groups vary from one-on-one to small groups of 3 to 4 students. In-person tutoring will be conducted in a COVID-19 safe environment.

Virtual ESOL Teacher and Assistants

Objective: To serve as a dedicated English teacher to adult students from a variety of social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.

Responsibilities:  To serve as a dedicated English teacher to adult students from a variety of social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds. Responsibilities: Teaching English virtually to approximately 10 students 1 or 2 nights per week. HCC ESOL curriculum training and orientation to virtual platform.

Qualifications: Ability to connect and communicate respectfully and responsively with adults. Basic teaching or public speaking experience. Basic knowledge of English grammar and phonetics. Enthusiasm about incorporating students’ lives and knowledge into the curriculum. Openness to working with a variety of personalities with different life situations. Ability to ask for suggestions or help when needed. Reliable transportation.

Time Commitment: ESOL classes will occur 2 times per week, and each session is 2 hours long. Volunteers can commit to one or both days per week

Notre Dame AmeriCorps – Apopka, a full-time service opportunity

Objective: Provide 11 months of community service helping students succeed in school and life, supporting adult learning, working with families in poverty.

  • Earn $13,732 (about $900/month)
  • Receive health insurance
  • Get a childcare benefit, if qualified
  • Earn Education Award (about $5,920)

Responsibilities:  

  • It depends on the site selected. This will be discussed in initial meetings.

Qualifications: Minimum 18 years old with high school diploma or actively working on GED

Time Commitment: About 35-40 hours per week.

Training and Meetings: Program begins in Sept 2019 with an orientation. Team members meet every 2 weeks for a day of training and leadership development.
