Pride at Hope: Apopka’s FIRST EVER Pride Event
For over 50 years, throughout the month of June, Pride has been celebrated worldwide to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising, largely seen as the flashpoint that launched the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. But Pride does not have to be constrained to just one month. Pride is a celebration that can be held year-round.
On Saturday, May 14, as part of our 50 Years y Más, We are celebrating Pride at Hope the first-ever pride event in Apopka.
We at Hope CommUnity Center recognize the challenges faced by Immigrants, People of Color, and LGBTQ individuals. And we see the further struggles faced by those that sit at the intersection of these identities. Hope at Pride is a testament to the progress that we as an organization and as a community have made towards recognizing these intersections and addressing their needs because Hope CommUnity Center stands in solidarity with all people who are tenacious and courageous in the face of oppression.
Celebrate the diversity of our great community with us on the beautiful grounds of our South Apopka building. Attendees will enjoy family-focused vendors, entertainment, and activities and learn more about our programs, services, and resources. It will be a fun festival for all ages.
We are proud to work alongside 26Health, Come Out with Pride, Contigo Fund, Descolonizarte Teatro, One Orlando Alliance, and Peer Support Space in organizing this remarkable event. This coalition aims to raise awareness about the intersectionality of LGBTQ+, Immigrants, and People of Color and advocate for more protections, rights, and empowerment.
Immigration, Climate Justice, Social Justice, and LGBTQ+ organizations will be joining us this day to provide more information on their causes and to give you opportunities to join in wherever your passion takes you.
Celebrate diversity, honor the idea of living authentically and truthfully, and remember what Sister Ann says, “This is a place where everybody is welcome and everybody is loved.”
Join us on May 14. We look forward to welcoming everyone as we bring más color. For more information, just click here.
